How far can I push it> I now have 49.5 hrs on my BX2230, and I figure about 2 more mowing/leaf pickups or about 3 more hours until I am finished with the mower & vacumn for the season. Can I wait until then to do the 50 HR service. I have week off over Christmas and a heated garage, I was hoping to wait until then. Also if we get any snow before then I might have another hour or two. Can I wait until 55 hrs to do the 50 hr service? I am new to diesels and tractors.

Yes its just a recommended service time. It shouldnt hurt anything as the hour meters on the BX series run off "key time" not pto time. What this means is anytime the key is on the meter is running adding up hours. So if you just have it idling or anything with the key in the on position it is recording a hour for a hour...........With a PTO meter it takes into account the actual pto speeds so if your idling it time is not adding as fast........
So it should not hurt to extend the 50hr service as im sure there are not 50 real runtime hours on it yet. ....

That is a minor concern with that few extra hours, but when you do the service over Christmas do things just as the book tells you, don't skimp with brand X fluids or filters, use the manufacturers brand. The 50 hr. service interval is probably the most important one of your tractors life, so follow the book to the letter, you'll be rewarded years down the road for what you do now. Frank. ....

Take a look at the oil on the dipstick, and do the same for the hydro oil. The hydro oil should appear clear and the engine oil shouldn't be too dark or leave a residue on the dipstick. If your oils are dark, you may want to reconsider. Remember that this is all break-in oil, and should be changed as close to recommended as possible.'
Your tractor is also under warranty. Not servicing the tractor as recommneded in the manual could give someone something to question you on if there was ever a need for warranty work.
Proper break-in is the most important thing you can do at this point to assure long service from your tractor. I would't push it too far. You will be surprised at the amount of manufacturing debris that will be on the hydraulic fluid strainer. The engine oil is picking up the same stuff as everything settles in for the long ride.
It only takes an hour for the whole service. ....

Jim, many manufacturers recommend the 50 hour service. They do it to help the longevity of the equipment by removing any contamination from the building process at that change rather then changing at 100 hours. The fifty hours is a guide time, depending on use some owners might have the equivelent to fifty hours at 35 and some may not have it until 60 hours. As a dealer I would tell you to do it some time around the interval suggested and for normal work you won't be hurting the tractor with a few extra hours. ....

Thanks to all for the advice, my tractor has had very easy work until the last couple of weeks of picking up leaves. Mostly mowing and I do allow about 5 minutes of idle time each time I start it so it warms up. ....

Don't forget the strainer behind the rear wheel. This is very important. You will not believe the amount of mtal shavings you will find in there. Be sure to clean it and be careful as it is pretty fragile. Use the super UDT and good oil. It is a little more money but on a small machine like a bx it doesn't break the bank. Jim ....
